Singapore’s Creative Community Supports the New Directors’ Showcase

Audience at the Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore-hosted event treated to screening followed by Q&A panel session.

Singapore - The screening of the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase held in Singapore last Tuesday, 10 December, was only the third time the reel had been shown outside of the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

At the invite-only event, members of Singapore’s creative, advertising and brand community were hosted by Saatchi & Saatchi Singapore at the Cathay Cineplex for a reception and screening, before the evening closed with a Q&A panel on the impact of the Internet on filmmaking.

“The New Directors’ Showcase highlights the cutting edge of creativity in our business, and the ability to bring it to Singapore is very special. In the Asia-Pacific region we need to create more opportunities to nurture, share and develop creative talent because it is through this that world-changing ideas emerge,” says Chris Foster, Chairman and CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Asia-Pacific.

The Q&A Panel at the Singapore screening of the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors’ Showcase consisted of Wee Li Lin of Bobbing Buoy Films, Ays Tan of Great Guns, John Lui from The Straits Times, and James Breeze of Objective Asia.

During the Q&A session, Wee Li Lin spoke about how the nature of Internet enables us to be surprised in our search for interesting content; John Lui touched on how we determine quality content from ‘spam’; Ays Tan shared her experience with how new platforms like Vine have influenced the process of filmmaking; and James Breeze spoke of how the use of eye tracking allows us to determine ways to make our concepts more engaging at an emotional and unconscious level.
